The clown loach originates from Indonesia on the island of Sumatra and Borneo. They have orange fins with 3 black bands on an orange body and some barbels about their mouth. Like all loaches, they have a pair of spines beneath their eyes which you should be cautious of. They grow very slowly to a maximum length of 11.8 in (30.0 cm).
A very active and social fish, they are best kept in groups of 5 or more. They prefer water with a 5.0 - 8.0 pH, a water hardness of 5.0 - 12.0 dGH, and an ideal temperature range of 77 - 86 °F (25 - 30 °C).
They also have some very interesting characteristics. They make clicking noises whenever they are excited, especially during feeding times. And they have a habit of lying on its sides when resting, looking like its dead.
With their interesting behaviors and active personality, clown loaches make excellent pets. Do note that these fishes have a life span of up to 50 years.
